Okay, okay,
I know I'm just about a week late with this thing, but I've been sick and working
a new job - not always a good combination, but what can I say? Lash me with
a few wet noodles if it makes you feel better. ;)
Here begins my fourth and final report for Con Fest 2003. Yeah, I can't believe
it's over either. Feels like I just started!! Never fear though, I will have
more reports for 2004 (if my husband and my wallet can survive yet another year
of wackiness).
So where to begin - I always have to start my reports off like that, makes it
sound like I had so much going on I'm just at a loss as how to begin. Nevertheless,
I'm afraid I just may disappoint all of you out there with this one. However,
that being said, I will try my best to maintain the level of fun and excitement
that you've all come to expect from these reports.
Thursday, July 17th...
Five of us (Bittn, SpikeGirl02, Alane, Nimue and myself) arrived at the airport
in Tampa and found our way to the shuttle. As we stepped out into the waiting
area, we were greeted with the lovely Tampa heat and humidity. Ugh! It felt
like stepping outside into bath water! Despite the heat, there was an air of
excitement and anticipation. Even though most of us had met all of the BtVS
stars before, we were more excited about seeing long time online friends that
we hadn't met before in person. The weekend had potential and promise!
We arrived at the hotel to find out that two more of our group (Karen and Theresa)
had already arrived. While the others tried to get rooms, I grabbed my luggage
and headed upstairs to meet Karen. I was so glad to finally be able to hug the
person that I'd had so many online and phone conversations with in the last
year.
Once we got to our rooms and settled in, we waited for the others to arrive
- Jennette, Crystal and her husband, Dave. Later in the afternoon we met Fernando
(Joe Motes' partner in Vulkon) down in the lobby to figure out where we were
going for dinner. It was decided that the Asian Buffet would be a good place
to take a party of our size, plus it was just a short drive on the shuttle.
At about 7 PM, we all piled into the van and headed to dinner. Along with our
group, we met up with Diz, Paul, Isabelle and Carlos...all Vulkon Staff. The
food was amazing!! If you ever find yourself in Tampa, make sure you check out
this place! They had all types of Sushi, filet mignon, chicken stir fry, you
name it - they pretty much had it! And let's not forget the two for one drink
specials! After dinner we went back to the hotel and had a small party where
we got to know Diz (the master of ceremonies and one hell of a funny guy) and
Fernando better. They are extremely nice guys - and single! ;) Oh...and for
any of you who decide to purchase shooters at a liquor store...I strongly advise
against it. They either smell like paint thinner or nail polish remover and
taste about as good. Ick!
Friday, July 18th...
Once my hangover subsided, I went downstairs to register and buy a few photos
for the guests to sign. While I was down there, I commiserated with Carlos and
Isabelle about how much we will NEVER EVER drink again. Well, Isabelle and I
made that pact, Carlos was a very good boy and didn't drink much so he was just
fine - more than we could say for Diz who apparently was still somewhere in
his hotel room. Tsk, tsk!!
After registering, I trudged my way back to the room, showered and tried to
at least make myself look presentable so that I could go down to the ballroom
at 7 to see James Leary's Stunt C*cks as well as Joss Whedon's Firefly Bloopers.
However, they couldn't show Leary's mockumetary because he hadn't arrived at
the hotel yet. Leary was among the missing! Hmmm...this sounds strangely familiar,
like MR familiar. "Has anyone seen Leary????". I was disappointed
because I really wanted to see the short flick again - despite the ewwww and
ick factor that comes along with it. So, wet hair and all, I went back upstairs
to get ready for the cocktail party.
We arrived at the cocktail party about half an hour after the start and it was
already in full swing...minus two VIP guests! Leary (surprise) and Iyari Limon.
Unfortunately, both were on the same flight which was now stuck at the Tampa
airport due to lightening. They sat on the runway for at least 3 hours - I believe
that's what Fernando had told me at one point. Can you imagine sitting in a
plane that long with nothing to do and that close to the terminal???? Gah! I'd
go nuts! Anyway, I wandered around the room, eating cheese (because that's all
the food that was left - along with fruit) and listened to Robin Atkins Downe
who was having a sing along at the piano. The man really knows how to tickle
the ivories! After a while, I spotted Mercedes McNab. Yep, she's just as tiny
and cute in person as she is on the show. I didn't have a chance to chat with
her because I was starting to crave more food than was available plus JM came
in and was holding court. You couldn't get close to the man. There was no rhyme
nor reason to how it was handled, unfortunately. The same few people crowded
around him and monopolized his time for more than an hour. Finally, Paul guided
him to a back table where we rotated in and out of the seats so we could chat
with him. That went a little better. When he sat down, Mercedes came over, sat
on his lap and gave him a big hug. This was a little amazing since it's well
known that the two don't get along. A chair was then pulled up next to James
for her to sit in and she sat there for about 15 minutes until it was time for
everyone to rotate. Eventually, I made my way to the table but didn't say much.
I just sort of listened to his political views - he and I do NOT see eye to
eye so I sort of glazed over for a while. After my turn was up, we went back
to the room to get ready for the dance - which we didn't stay at long because
by that point I was FAMISHED! Amazing what happens once a hangover goes away.
Instead of going back to the dance, we went to the bar and ordered food, then
went back upstairs and ate...and ate...and ate. Oh, did I mention I was hungry????
Saturday,
July 19th...
Before I begin with Saturday, I would like to make a shout out to the mother/daughter
duo who drove all the way from Chicago to attend the con - car troubles and
all. I met them at Cashback Weekend - it was their first con and mom swore it
would be their last but I told them not to let Cashback influence them in any
way. I made them promise that if they got a chance to go to a Vulkon Buffy con
that they would, and they did!! YAY!!!! I ran into them at the cocktail party
and told them how glad I was to see them. They had managed to buy tickets from
someone who was selling them on a board...front row, including cocktail and
banquet tickets. Good for them. It was well worth their trip.
Okay...now that I've done my little shout out, I'll begin again. :)
My morning began with a sore throat. "Ha!" I said. "It's not
a cold but merely my allergies acting up." So I took a Claritin and SpikeGirl
and I headed down to try to get breakfast before the Q&A's started. However,
trying to get breakfast at the hotel restaurant was like trying to find a polar
bear in the snow during a blizzard - it wasn't happening. By the time we finally
got our food, finished eating and paid for the check, we had missed Robin's
Q&A. No big loss, but when we finally took our seats, we had missed most
of Leary's Stunt C*cks. That was a little disappointing. Although, watching
Diz's reactions to the film were funnier than watching the film itself - and
that's saying a lot because the flick is absolutely hilarious!! Anyway, Leary
was his usual charming self and talked about what parts he DOESN'T have coming
up. He also asked that if we want to see Clem again, that we get out there and
let Joss know. So go! What are you waiting for? You want to see Clem on AtS,
right???? Of course you do!! So get to it! Let's bring our little loose skinned
demon back to the Buffyverse!
Once Leary left stage, Iyari Limon came on and talked about playing Kennedy.
Nothing really new to report there but she's just as sweet as ever. Then came
Mercedes McNab. From what I understand, this was her first US con. She seemed
a little nervous and unsure about what to say. The audience was kind and asked
her several questions about her dog - she brought him along in a little bag.
Cutest little thing. She talked about how excited she was to come back to AtS
and said that there was potential to be on for the whole season. Hmmmm...not
sure if I'm liking that part but I guess I have no say in it. I really wish
Joss would discuss these kinds of moves with me! I mean, really! Humph.
Anyway, after Mercedes, JM came out in a red t-shirt with his hair slicked back.
It's gotten quite long with a lot of dark roots. I'm sure that by now he's back
to his bleached blond locks since filming began last week. He talked about his
movie that he'll begin filming in September - he will shoot all of his Spike
scenes BEFORE he leaves to do the movie so that it will look like he never left.
Good thing. Less Spike would have been bad. At one point a woman got up to ask
her question - "If I give you my fic, will you read it?" JM said that
he had to be honest, that he doesn't read because he uses his time for other
things. Well...wasn't that just great. There I am, sitting with my gift - a
bound copy of the Reset Series, courtesy of our little eeyore, thinking that
I was now going to give him something that would be thrown in the trash. Had
eeyore not done such a fabulous job and had it not looked so spectacular, I
wouldn't have even considered giving it to him. Oh well, I decided, too bad...what's
done is done and eeyore spent way too much time on it to not give it to him.
So, now I'm in the autograph line waiting to give my gift to JM but first I
must hand my photo to Mercedes to have her sign it. As guests go, she is one
of the dullest. I don't mean to offend or anything, she just didn't have much
of a personality. She didn't chat with anyone in the autograph line. She just
signed the pic and then moved on...no thank you for coming or anything. Maybe
I just expect too much...but at least Christopher Golden said thanks. Geez.
Finally it was my turn to see JM. I gave my pic to the handler, it was an 8x10
group shot of me, SpikeGirl02, LittlePhillyGirl, Melissa and him from MR's VIP
dance. The handler started raving about how nice he looked with his hair that
way (dark roots and no hair gel...soft curls) and what a nice picture it was.
JM's cheeks turned a little pink as the woman went on about how gorgeous his
natural hair color was. As the picture was placed in front of him, he looked
at it for a second and then looked up, shook my hand and said, "Hi, nice
to see you again." I really doubt that JM remembers me from the next fan
but he played nice and signed the picture. We spoke for a few moments about
stuff and then I handed him my bound fic. Well...handed isn't quite the word
I'd use - more like plopped it in front of him.
Brat: "Here. This is for you." (insert plopping sound
here)
JM: "Oh! What's this? This is *really* nice."
Brat: "My fic."
JM: "Really? Wow! This is gorgeous." (thumbing through
the pages)
Brat: (indignant) "I know you said you wouldn't read it
but I decided to give it to you anyway because a friend of mine spent so much
time binding it."
JM: "Are you serious? This is amazing. I might have to
make an exception."
Brat: (insert rolling of the eyes) "No need to patronize
me, James. You've already said you won't read anything anyone gives you."
JM: (staring wide eyed) "Uh...no, seriously. I might have
to make an exception. Really."
Brat: Sure, you do that James.
After that, I turned and left, leaving a wide-eyed and bewildered James Marsters
in my wake. However, I didn't make it too far because Karen needed me to translate
for her. She was next to me in the autograph line because I had traded badges
to sit next to her. She handed him a beautiful copy of the BAPS proclamation
to sign that Alane had presented to James in Chicago - she had been the designer
so she wanted to get him to sign her work. James looked at it, I'm not sure
if he was confused or just constipated, but he didn't say anything. Being me,
I chimed in with..."It's what we gave you in Chicago." He tilted his
head and studied it some more. After a few moments, he signed it. Karen let
him know that the back contained the names of everyone from BAPS who participated
in the proclamation and if he wanted to see what he couldn't on the original
he should turn it over. He did. Looked it over. Handed it back to her. She handed
him a gift, said this is for you. He took it. We left. End of story. Guess you
had to be there. ;)
So now that I was done with the autograph line and had all this time to kill
until the banquet, I headed over to the smaller autograph room that was home
to James Leary, Iyari Limon and Robin Atkins Downe. I decided I'd finally break
down and buy both a Robin and Iyari autograph for my scrapbook. I figured, why
not, right? First I stood in Iyari's line and had her sign a picture of Kennedy
and Willow sitting on the couch in Buffy's livingroom, making out. We talked
for a few minutes and then I moved on to Robin who is just one really strange
guy. After Robin I moved on to Leary. Ah yes, the infamous James Leary. Yes,
he still remembers who I am...amazingly enough. I guess he hasn't killed those
brain cells yet. I stood in his line (which was much longer than the line he
had at Cleveland) not to get an autograph but to buy a copy of Stunt C*cks on
dvd. Unfortunately, he ran out of dvds so I gave him the money, signed the list
and made him promise that he wouldn't just take the money and run as I'm sure
he would - he has shifty, beady eyes you know and plays poker with kittens.
Oh, wait, that's Clem...nevermind. ;)
Okay...let's skip ahead a few hours and get to the banquet, okay? Otherwise
I'll just be telling you about my chats with Fernando and me hanging out with
some of our group...really, really dull stuff. SpikeGirl, Karen, Bittn and I
headed down to the banquet a little late - five women in one hotel room is not
conducive to being ready on time. Luckily, we found seats together at table
a high numbered table. Maybe it was 19...can't remember. Doesn't matter. If
they had called us by table, we would have been waiting a LONG time to eat.
About ten minutes after we arrived, Fernando showed up with JM and to our delight,
he was seated at the table sort of to our left and front. Anyway, our table
number was called because we were quiet (they had originally started calling
out table numbers of the rowdiest tables) and we trudged up to the buffet line.
As I was about to step into line, Fernando and JM walked in front of me. I stood
there, rooted to the spot, questions running through my mind. Should I get in
line behind him or should I go in the other line (the line moved on both sides
of the buffet table)? Should I give him some space to let the poor man get his
food? What should I do?? Bittn then leaned over and whispered in my ear..."Go
on. Get up there."
Hesitantly I strolled up behind JM, plate in hand and started getting my salad
once he finished with his. Now, for as bright as the man is, please note, he
is an air head! Firstly, he recognized me from the autograph line. I could see
the recognition kick in...not sure if was an "OMG that girl again!"
or "Oh, that's the girl that chastised me about her fic". Either way,
didn't matter, he knew who I was. He looked at me, puts his hand on my back
and said, "Excuse me, I'm gonna just slide in behind you here and get into
line over there." I looked at him like he'd grown a second head, not exactly
sure what he was talking about. Then I understood. He didn't realize that the
line was one BOTH sides of the table so I say, "James, the line moves both
ways." He looked at me with a sort of odd look, like I spoke some language
he didn't understand. I rolled my eyes and continued to put lettuce on my plate.
Finally, Fernando came over and told him that he could stay where he was because
the line moved on both sides. Ahhh! Understanding dawns. Again I rolled my eyes
at him as he sheepishly got back in line in front of me...at least he tried
to give me a cute smile.
Brat: "Geez. I told you the line moved both ways."
JM: (grinning) "Sorry, I didn't realize."
Brat: (dramatic sigh) "I suppose I'll forgive you...this
time."
JM: (still grinning) "As transgressions go, I guess that
*is* a small one."
Brat: "I suppose."
(insert giggling by both me and him as we move down the buffet line)
Brat: "Hey, I don't see any vegetables on that plate,
mister."
JM: "Me and veggies don't interact much."
Brat: "Oh? And why's that?"
JM: (this is not verbatim because I was too busy yelling at
myself for talking to him about his lack of vegetables) "I drink whey juice
instead."
Brat: (scrunching up nose) "Ewwwwww!"
JM: (again not verbatim) "Yeah, ew exactly. I drink about
2 pounds of that stuff everyday. Easier for me to get my veggies that way."
Brat: (still making the ick face) "I see. Well...I guess
that's good." (rolling eyes at myself as I put carrots on my plate)
JM: "You've got veggies on your plate. Good girl. Do you
think these are potatoes?"
Brat: "I'm not sure. I think I'm gonna stick with the
dead cow over there" (pointing at the roast beef)
JM: "Yeah, dead cow sounds good." (heaps meat onto
his plate and then turns back to me) "See ya. Thanks for keeping me company
in line."
Brat: "Yeah. See ya later."
I walked back to my seat, sat down and buried my face in my hands. Of course
everyone wanted to know what JM and I talked about since we looked so animated
in line. What was I to say? I stood where a lot of other girls would have killed
to stand and what did I talk to JM about??? Vegetables...and the lack there
of on his plate. Good God!!!!! I'm not even a mom!!!!!!! Oh well. At least he
thanked me for keeping him company. Me, I probably would have run off screaming,
telling Fernando to get rid of the wacky vegetable girl over at table 19 or
whatever table number I sat at.
Don't I just have the best stories? You should see me rolling my eyes at myself
right now. Just shoot me, stuff me and mount me. I'm done. And yes, that last
bit was a wave at Esme. :)
The rest of the evening consisted of JM and the other guests staying at their
tables and not mingling. That sorta sucked because it's not like you want to
go up to their table while their eating (or not) and go..."Hey, can I have
a picture with you?" It just isn't right. However, we were entertained
by the TV theme song sing off. I'm not sure who started it, Robin or Leary,
but it was hilarious!!!!!! Diz, who sat at Mercedes table, lead the way and
totally kicked Leary's butt...especially after Robin and his table banded together
with them. It was really sad but incredibly funny. Nothing like having TV stars
sing bad theme songs (and other songs as well) off key while you're finishing
dinner. It was fun though.
After the banquet, SpikeGirl and I headed back to the room to change before
the karaoke contest and dance. By this point, my cold was fully raging and I
was miserable beyond belief. Once we changed into sensible attire, we went back
to the ballroom and found seats near the back of the room. We really couldn't
see too much but I didn't mind - me and my tissues were becoming really well
acquainted and once I ran out of mine, the bathroom and I became buddies. Thank
goodness the hotel was nice enough to have Puffs in the ladies room. I also
think I bought all the cough drops the gift shop stocked. It was awful. Anyway,
we sat through the first few contestants and my mind fuzzed over. Not because
they were bad, but again, the cold was taking it's toll. Then this couple was
called to the stage. The man was dressed in his pajamas. Now, I'm sitting there
thinking, what the heck is this guy on and can I have some because it HAS to
be better than this cold. As if his jammies weren't enough, the woman takes
off her robe to reveal her underwear. It was very tasteful so get your minds
out of the gutter!!! They were dressed like Anya and Xander were for their song
in "Once More With Feeling". I looked over at SpikeGirl and started
giggling. I figured we were in for a real treat. Cue the music for "I'll
Never Tell". The next thing I know, they're performing the song AND acting
out the moves. It was incredible!!!!! They really had the audience cheering
them along and when they finished, they received a standing ovation. I figured
they would win hands down, no matter who else did what. Well, I shouldn't have
thought that because not too long after them, there were two girls who did a
bang up job on their song. Oh...and one woman did a rendition of "Amazing
Grace", just for Andy. It was really well done!! Finally, it was time for
the results. Apparently the judges had a tough time picking the winner - there
was a lot of snarkiness between Andy, Robin and Leary, all in good fun of course.
So after much debate and grouching, Diz announced the first place winner - the
couple who did "I'll Never Tell"! We all cheered and gave them a standing
ovation once again. YAY!!! I love it when I'm right. ;)
Once the contest was over, we all pretty much figured that Andy was going to
sing for us. He was supposed to have done so in Cleveland but somehow got out
of it, same held true for this night. He was kind enough, however, to pose for
some pictures before Fernando whisked him away to his room. We were told that
he, Leary, Robin and Iyari would be attending the dance which was immediately
following the contest. It took them a few minutes to convert to a dance area.
I wasn't too sure about staying for the dance because my head felt like it was
going to explode then I decided that a few minutes wouldn't hurt. At least that
way I could get some good candids of the guests dancing and whatnot. After about
20 minutes, the dance started and SpikeGirl and I found seats AWAY from the
speakers. My ears weren't clogged at this point but would be by the end of the
night. Head colds are THE worst.
We watched Diz do his DJ thing for a while but then decided that since the guests
weren't showing up, there was no reason for us to stay. I headed out of the
ballroom to go back to our room and ran smack dab into the middle of a crowd
in the lobby. They were listening to Andy and Robin do an impromptu duet on
the piano. Robin played while Andy sang. It was very cool! After a while, it
became a sing-a-long with Andy and I went up to the balcony to snap pictures
(I'm much too short to see anything from ground level, especially behind lots
of people). They did a few Elton John songs and a Billy Joel song as well as
some others. I can't remember which ones since there wasn't enough energy for
my brain to process anything other than "take picture now". Eventually,
Andy left and went to the bar while Robin and the crowd continued to sing. Leary
was also present, chatting in the lobby with fans. He was very well behaved
at this con. I guess he learned how to hold his liquor - either that or he just
didn't drink as much this time. :)
After a few pictures with Fernando and friends, I decided that it was time to
head to bed. My body'd had enough.
Sunday,
July 20th...
Morning dawned and SpikeGirl, Crystal, Dave and I decided to head to the restaurant
for breakfast. We got there at 10:30 in the morning and were told that they
were closed. Who in their right mind closes on a Sunday during breakfast????
We were a little miffed to say the least. Instead, we decided to go back to
Dave and Crystal's room and order room service. The food didn't arrive until
11:15 and the Q&A's started at 11:30 because JM had to be out of the hotel
by 5:30 to catch his flight. I really wasn't all that upset about missing Iyari,
Robin and Leary's Q&A (they were together because of the time schedule)
so I ate my brunch slowly and tried to enjoy it, even though I couldn't taste
a darn thing. At about noon, we decided we should head down because Andy was
supposed to come on around 12:30.
We got to our seats in time for the last fifteen minutes of the first Q&A
and Leary was his usual charming self. I almost regretted not being there for
the whole thing. He's such a goof. But soon Andy made me forget all about the
others. He came on stage and transported us away to Andyland. One woman asked
if he had ever dressed in drag or considered dressing in drag (his answer was
no but that he had a lot of friends who did and that he cooked dinner for them
every Sunday night) so for the rest of the hour, the jokes always came back
to him being a drag queen. I would dearly love to see Andy do an adult only
Q&A that lasts more than an hour. He is just so darn funny and has the best
stories!! He even got out his cell phone, dialed his parents' number (he got
the machine) and had us sing happy birthday to his mom. It was the coolest thing!!
He told us that his dad had forgotten his mom's birthday so he wanted to make
his mom feel good. What a sweet son! As always, Andy's hour was far too short
but we enjoyed every single minute. Please, if you ever get a chance to go to
a con where Andy is a guest, you MUST go. Don't even think twice, just pay for
the ticket and hop on the plane.
After Andy, JM took stage for his Q&A. Not much new from the day the before.
Actually, I can't really remember a whole lot because my cold medication was
wearing off and I was dying. Or maybe it was because I took more medication
and I was in left field. Either way, doesn't matter...I was toast. I remember
him talking about going to Angel and some stuff about his movie, but that's
about it. I do remember he made eye contact with me - I was in the 5th row right
on the aisle - and I got a little smile. Too bad I was too miserable to enjoy
it. Oh! He mentioned his son! He's becoming quite brave with the personal items,
first he mentioned being 40 at Chicago, then he talked about his ex-wife at
MR and this time he mentioned the fact that he has a 7 year old son. I was impressed.
See, I DID remember something. :)
Once JM finished, it was time for the autograph line. They asked us to please
have everything out that we wanted them to sign and any gifts we might have
as well...it was supposed to make the line move faster. I suppose it did. Again,
time was nothing to me. I just remember thinking how good the bed would feel
once I was finished. Andy and JM were signing in the same room, same set up
as the previous day when Mercedes and JM signed. I handed Andy my item and he
called me sweetness and thanked me for coming. He also commented that I was
either hung over or extremely tired. I smiled and told him that I had caught
a cold and if he was interested, I could share. He didn't seem to thrilled with
the idea so I moved on and waited for my turn with JM.
Fernando sat with JM to keep the line moving, giving menacing looks if he thought
you were taking a moment too long. It was kinda funny...to me anyway, but I
think anything would have amused me at that point. Let's recap this quick...Saturday
night at the banquet I reprimanded JM for not having veggies on his plate and
on Sunday in the autograph line I gave him "homework" from eeyore.
I think it's safe to say that JM won't soon forget me. Is that a good thing?
I'm not sure. I didn't have much of a conversation with JM this time, other
than to say that what I was giving him was "homework" from a friend
who couldn't make it. Of course, I tried to explain, without a voice, that eeyore
wanted him to read an excerpt from "Catch 22". He sort of gave me
a strange look and I shrugged my shoulders. If I'd had any energy, I think I
would have been just as snarky as the day before. I think he was expecting me
to and was a bit disappointed when I didn't give him a hard time. It would have
taken far more energy than I had available.
When I finished thanking James for coming to the con, I immediately went up
to the room and passed out. I think that was at 3 or so. Around 5:45, I woke
up and decided to go downstairs to see what everyone was up to. Crystal, Dave
and SpikeGirl were in row X and I wanted to see if they had made it through
the line before JM left. I got downstairs and started to make my way towards
the ballroom when I encountered chaos and mayhem. I was still very groggy and
didn't understand what was going on. I turned to a woman next to me and asked
what was going on. I hated to think I had missed something good! She told me
that JM was walking the line, signing for the later rows that hadn't been called.
So I'm standing there, brain fuzzy and confused. I understood what she said
but it just didn't register. Next thing I know, JM's in front of me and I'm
telling him to have a good flight. Could I get any more spastic??? First I talk
to him about veggies and now I'm telling him to have a good flight. Shoot me
now. Finally, the chaos subsided and JM was whisked away to the airport. I finally
found everyone...they were back in line to get their stuff signed by Andy who
had changed his flight to the next day so that everyone would get an autograph
from him. Again, a very nice, fan conscious man. It was refreshing to see a
star doing something like that. I understand why JM didn't change his flight,
he had to get home to practice with GotR because they had a gig the next night
at the House of Blues in L.A. Sometimes these things can't be helped but when
a star changes his plans to do good by his fans, that's really neat to see.
The rest of the evening was spent hanging out in Dave and Crystal's room, going
to the Vulkon meeting and hanging out with Diz and Carlos before they left for
home. On Monday we had a late flight home (AirTran only has 2 direct flights
in and out of Tampa to Baltimore a day - go figure) so we had time to kill.
We mostly hung out in the hotel lobby talking to other late departing fans.
I bought afrin so that I could have a somewhat clear head to fly home (didn't
help! grrrrrrrr!) and I tried to nap...that didn't happen either. At one point
Fernando and Paul came back with Iyari from wherever they had been and were
hanging out in the lobby. I went over to talk to Fernando to say goodbye but
wound up chatting with Iyari for about half an hour. We gossiped about cons
and talked about cell phones (we have the same type of phone). She's really
nice and extremely down to earth. If you ever get a chance to have a conversation
with her, you'll see she's nothing like her character, Kennedy.
All in all, it was a pretty interesting Monday afternoon and an all around great
con!! I got to see old friends, meet new ones and have a blast at a gathering
of people who were all there for the same purpose - worshipping one of the greatest
shows to ever hit the airwaves.
Well guys and gals, that's pretty much it. This is PSUbrat, signing off, until
next con season. :)
Brat :)
